Yancy OrchardDr. Yancy Orchard has been a student of Dr. Painter's since 1994. He first encountered Dr. Painter in an article in Inside Kung Fu Magazine.  Several years later, Dr. Orchard moved to Dallas, TX to study chiropractic at the Parker College of Chiropractic.  He then sought out Dr. Painter’s school, at the time called The Wholistic Fitness Center, and dove in, whole-heartedly, to the most comprehensive mind-body martial program he’d ever come across.  Dr. Orchard studied for 3 continuous years at The Gompa (Dr. Painter’s school in Arlington, TX) before returning to Saskatoon.  Dr. Orchard has received instruction from Dr. Painter in the following topics over the past 17 years:

Dr. Orchard continues to travel to the Gompa frequently to further his studies with Dr. Painter.  He also makes annual trips to the Gathering of the Circle in early June and Founder’s Day in October.  Dr. Painter makes two trips to Saskatoon every year (February and September) to bring his vast knowledge to the students that Dr. Orchard has under his care.

Early Martial Training

Dr. Orchard began his martial studies under Sensei Dwight Scheer in 1983 and earned a shodan in the art of Zen Karate-Do. In 1987, Dr. Orchard began studying Hombu-style Aikido under the technical direction of Shihan Yukio Kawahara. He has earned a sandan and teaches once weekly at the Saskatoon Aikido Club.   He has dabbled in kendo (Shihan Ken Miyaoka), Doce Pares  and Sopon Escrima (Sifu Valentine Espiricueta), Systema (Mr. Vladimir Vasiliev, Mr. Mikhail Ryabko), Shindo Muso Ryu Jodo (Shihan Matsumura Shigehiro) and Historical European Martial Arts (Mr. Guy Windsor).
